The Sixth Conference on Geographical Names

The Sixth Conference was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, from July 10–13, 2012, at the invitation of the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center. The conference aimed to:
– provide an introduction to geographic names and their importance.
– document geographic names (map dictionaries, atlases, etc.etc.)
– Exchanging expertise and information among Arab countries in the field of geographical names.
– Keeping pace with technological developments related to geographical names.
– Adopting a unified Arab system for transcribing Arabic characters (romanization) into Roman (Latin) characters, based on standard Arabic and neutralizing local dialects.
