We strive to make the Society a scientifically advanced organization that is open to the world, both professionally and culturally. The Jordanian Geographical Society is committed to providing general geographical knowledge, conducting scientific research, and promoting geographical culture—particularly with regard to issues related to resource development and all matters pertaining to the geographical conditions of Jordan in particular and the Arab world in general.
To achieve its objectives, the Society relies on a range of methods, beginning with the preparation of scientific studies and research and the provision of the necessary expertise and consultations to public and private entities in the fields of natural resource investment, spatial planning, economics, urban development, the advancement of geographic education and culture, geographic information systems, and remote sensing. In addition, the Society publishes books and atlases, issues a peer-reviewed scientific journal, establishes specialized geographic libraries, and organizes scientific seminars in this field, in addition to participating in conferences and liaising with associations, institutions, and individuals involved in geographic studies. All these activities are supported by field trips and geographical surveys, highlighting the Society’s planned excursions to explore Jordan’s geographical and historical landmarks, during which information about the region’s nature and features will be explained to participants.
Books and Comics
As for the contents of the Geography Library, it will house a large number of books and illustrated publications in Arabic and foreign languages covering the fields of geography, history, archaeology, and education, in addition to geography journals published by geographical societies and geography departments at Arab and international universities. This society works to revitalize the field of geography and encourage its members to publish research and studies that contribute to scientific research and development in Jordan through seminars, field trips, and public lectures.
Seminars and Conferences
The Society organizes seminars and conferences at its headquarters on geographical, historical, and scientific topics, followed by dialogues and discussions that greatly enrich topics related to the environment, desertification, pollution, agricultural production, sustainable development, geographic information systems, and remote sensing, in collaboration with numerous local and regional entities. The Society also actively participates in Arab geographic forums and scientific conferences outside Jordan.
