The Arab Division of Experts on Geographical Names, theRoyal Jordanian GeographicCenter, the United Nations Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for West Asia, and the Jordanian Geographical Society, the Eighth Arab Conference of Arab Experts on Geographical Names in the Jordanian capital, Amman, from October 1–3, 2019.
The conference aims to promote joint Arab action in the following areas:
- Adoption of a standardized format for geographical names.
- Activation of the Arab Division's committees.
- Implementation of the Unified Arabic Romanization System.
- Establishment of national committees/bodies responsible for geographical names.
- Preserving Arabic geographical names as part of the Arab cultural heritage and limiting their alteration and disappearance.
- Preventing the Judaization of geographical names in Palestine.
- Organizing educational workshops and forums for the exchange of expertise in the field of names and geographic information.
- Implementation of Arab and international resolutions concerning the collection, recording, standardization, and preservation of geographical names.
